IP Address Conflict

Filed in archive Information on July 30, 2010

An IP address conflict occurs when two computers on a LAN (local area network) or the Internet have been assigned the same IP address. IP conflicts between two computers normally render either one or both of them unusable for network operations. IP address conflict generally occurs because of the following reasons:

• When two computers on the LAN are assigned the same static IP address.
• When a computer is assigned a static IP address within the local network's DHCP range (dynamic IP range), and the same address is automatically assigned by the LAN DHCP server
• A malfunction in the network's DHCP server allows the same dynamic address to automatically be assigned to multiple computers.
• A mobile computer is put into standby / hibernate mode and then awakened later.

On most Microsoft Windows computers, if you attempt to set a fixed (static) IP address that is already active on the local network an error message generally pops up. The problem of ip address conflict can be resolved by ensuring that each local host is configured with a unique IP address in case of static ip address whereas in the case of dynamically assigned address, releasing and renewing its IP address can workaround IP address conflicts.

The IP Address Survival Guide

Filed in archive Information on July 30, 2010

The fundamental method for computers to identify themselves on most computer networks is through the help of ip address. Every computer (or other network device) connected to the Internet has an IP address. IP addresses are written in a notation using numbers separated by dots. This is called "dotted-decimal" notation, for instance 10.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.1 are some good examples. Everyone who needs to use a computer network should understand how to look up their own IP addresses. The exact procedure to follow depends on the kind of computer you use. When a computer network is functioning properly, IP addresses stay in the background; however, the common problems like the following may arise:

• A computer has no IP address
• Two computers have the same IP address
• A computer has a "bad" IP address that won't allow it to "talk" on the network

These problems can be solved by IP address release / renew, setting static IP addresses, and updating the subnet configuration. Moreover you can also hide your ip address in order to increase your privacy on the internet.

How To Change Your IP Address

Filed in archive Information on July 29, 2010

The process to change the ip address mostly depends upon whether the IP address is static or dynamic and whether it's public or private. The IP addresses you use for Internet access are controlled by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). It is not easy to change these, especially if you want to do it quickly.

In order to change a static public IP address, you will need to contact the ISP and work with their technical support to have them assign a new one while in case of a dynamic public IP address, you can change your ip address by attempting release and renew the address using ipconfig or a similar utility.

It is easier to change private IP addresses, the ones used internally on your local network. Some people change a public IP address to avoid online bans; however changing the private ip address does not at all affect any of the issues related to internet address. The choice of IP address does not affect your network performance or network security in any meaningful way.

When you visit websites or other internet servers that public IP address is transmitted and recorded in log files kept on those servers. These access logs leave behind a trail of your Internet activity. If it were possible to somehow hide your public IP address, your Internet activity would become much more difficult to trace. Unfortunately, it is not technically possible to always hide the public IP address of a home network; however, the use of proxy servers makes it possible to hide the IP address through the use of proxy servers. An anonymous proxy server ("proxy") is a special type of server that acts as an intermediary between a home network and the rest of the Internet. Numerous free anonymous proxy servers exist on the Internet, open for anyone to use. The ability to hide an IP address increases your privacy on the Internet

Hide Your IP Address

Internet Protocol (IP) address refers to the unique number assigned to each computer on the Internet. The Internet Service Providers offer the IP address. Websites typically track visitors by IP address to see what pages are of interest. Identities can be linked to IP addresses when registration and cookies come into play. Any site can get the IP address of any user from the cookies. This is a major threat to internet privacy. With this IP address, hackers can break into the user's computer and steel all the personal data.
Masking is the method of hiding the IP address from potential hackers and other websites. Masking IP address is very essential for every individual or organization in order to protect theft of valuable data. There are two common means:
• Using a Proxy server: By doing so the original IP address remains hidden from the websites. Instead the proxy server's address is shown.
• Using a masking software program: There are different types of software programs which hides the IP address.
